The Sport of Paintball
People of all ages and physical ability can participate in paintball, a
non-contact, group-oriented sport that promotes cooperation and
self-confidence.
Equipped with protective gear and paintball firing airguns, players pursue goals and each other. More than just fun or competition, it places considerable emphasis on ethical behavior and working together as a group. It is used by universities, corporations, ROTC, and many other organizations to teach cooperation, leadership and teamwork.
The action is intense, but relative size or strength is not a factor...men, women and teenagers can have fun and compete on an equal footing.
Come out and experience the sport that's been enjoyed by more than 4 million people around the world. SPIKED PAINTBALL can equip you with everything you need to start living the adventure. So, GET OFF THE COUCH and come out to SPIKED PAINTBALL FIELD.
What to Bring
Wear old, loose fitting clothes, boots
or tennis shoes. Avoid light or colorful clothing. Protect
ears and throat with a bandana or old T-shirt. Knee and
elbow pads are also a good idea, Men should wear an athletic
cup or add padding to underwear. Women should wear an athletic
or padded bra. Bring something to eat and drink. No alcohol
or drugs are not permitted at
SPIKED PAINTBALL FIELD,
either on or off the field.
Saftey
Your essential protection is
the mask/goggles combo. Other clothing and protective items
are meant to avoid pain and bruises. If a paintball hits
you just right, it will cause a small welt, but most break
harmlessly on your clothing or mask. Referees will explain
field safety before you play. Don't jump into trenches or
bunkers without looking, and don't climb on top of structures.
Watch out for snakes. NEVER take off mask/goggles
on field or target range. NEVER remove barrel plug,
unless you are on the field or target area. Keep your barrel
pointed down and your finger off the trigger until you are
ready to shoot. Strict adherence to safety rules has made
paintball safer than golf.
The Paintball Gun
Semiautomatic guns have gas-operated
cocking mechanisms and shoot a ball just by pulling the
trigger. Semis break paint occasionally, coating the inside
of the barrel with paintball fill and causing the balls
to curve in flight. This is easily cured by cleaning the
barrel with a squeegee.
Paintball guns usually do not have sights, and aiming is
done by just pointing the barrel at the target like a shotgun.
This is reasonably accurate and when the action is fast
all players shoot this way, regardless of sights. Because
most paintball are brightly colored, the shooter can see
them in flight toward the target like tracer rounds. If
you have any questions about the paintball guns, equipment
or rules, just ask an experienced player or referee.
If You Get Hit
Remember, hits only count if
the paintball breaks and marks you with paint, Splatter
from near-misses does not count. Some hits are immediately
obvious, such as on the goggles or hand, in which case you
should call hit, plug your barrel, hold your gun pointing
up, and walk off the field. Other hits are not so obvious,
such as on the back or side, or the paintball may not break.
If hit in a place you cannot easily see, dive for cover
and check yourself, or have a teammate do it, or call paintcheck
to the referee, who will call you neutral and determine
if you're hit. Do not advance on a neutral player. Above
all, paintball depends on the honor system to work and be
fun. Be sure to call hits loudly if you are marked. Also,
some hits cannot be seen or felt by the player, such as
on fanny packs or boot soles, and the player may continue
on, unaware they have been hit. If you see a teammate or
opposing player with such a non-obvious hit just inform
them or the referee.
